Five Rivers Metropark’s Bike to Work Day and free pancake breakfast was canceled last week due to a fire near the 2nd Street Market. So Five Rivers Metroparks ramped up the whole Bike to Work Day shindig again today to encourage dozens (hundreds? very possibly) of Dayton bicycle enthusiasts and commuters to bike in to work. I left home a little early this morning and stopped by the check out the event.
Some pics below:
I arrived just after 7:30 a.m. or so, so it was also likely the busiest time of the day, but I was still pretty surprised by the turnout. I had trouble finding a place to park my bike, so ended up just leaning it against a couple of others along the market wall. There were plenty of Five Rivers staff on hand, all of them friendly and helpful and very obviously passionate about what they were doing. For folks that had been there since 6:00 a.m., they were surprisingly chipper. All the free coffee might have helped.
Pancakes, fruit, sausage, juice, and coffee were all in abundant supply… especially the pancakes, which were quite generous and more carbs than I could handle. The whole event was remarkably warm and friendly. Now that I’ve attended a Five Rivers event, it makes me want to get out there and see what else is going on with the Dayton cycling community.
