Hermes Awards All-Star Band "Market Penetration"

Hermes Awards All-Star Band “Market Penetration”

On Saturday night February 16th, the annual Hermes Awards kicked off with an unprecedented sight. Seven musicians from six advertising companies joined together on stage to put aside their competitiveness, pick up their instruments, and just have fun. Two guitarists from competing fulfillment companies stood side by side. Musicians from competing marketing companies played in perfect harmony. And that’s really what the Hermes Awards are all about.  It’s a chance to recognize Dayton advertising as a whole. And, just like that all-star band, Dayton advertising, as  a whole, is very good.

Each year, AAF-Dayton presents the Hermes Awards. This year, a record sold-out crowd of over 400 people gathered at the Dayton Marriott to recognize the best print, digital, television, outdoor, radio, and non-traditional advertising. Old co-workers re-unite. Creatives mingle with creatives. And everyone stands together to applaud one exceptional person who is awarded our industry’s highest local honor, the AAF Silver Medal.  This year, as the award was presented  to AAF-Dayton’s spectacular Executive Director Sara McCatherine, the ovation was a little louder and the audience stood a little longer than usual. We all put aside our allegiances and recognized the greater good of advertising.

Until, of course, the coveted Hermes heads were presented.  And then, the competitive spirit bubbled back to the surface.

The Ohlmann Group had a great year. We were proud to be awarded 8 awards in total for a series of billboards we created for Trimbach’s Body Shop, an integrated campaign and television commercial we created for The Land of Illusion, a fun public service promotional piece we created for The Epilepsy Foundation of Western Ohio, and several creative self-promotional pieces we created for ourselves in 2012.  In the end, we brought home two Hermes heads – one for a campaign of radio commercials we created for Moeller Door Sales, and one for the promotional materials we created for last year’s AAF-Dayton Hermes Awards.

It’s always a joy to put together creative work for clients who aren’t afraid to push the envelope. It’s also gratifying to have that work recognized by a group of our peers. Congratulations to Sara and AAF-Dayton for proving that, once again this year, Dayton advertising rocks!
