Twenty-five area companies and advertising agencies shared honors at the annual award dinner of the Dayton Ad Club last night at the Dayton Convention Center.
Five of the winners were singled out for special honors in recognition of their best of winners entries in the five categories being judged.
Penny-Ohlmann-Neiman was cited for the best entry for newspapers, a “Good Things Happen To People in the Miami Valley” ad for WONE-WTUE radio.
The best of magazine ads was a two-page color spread on Armco Coll-Coated Steels. It was prepared by Armco Communications Associates.
Huffman Manufacturing prepared the top radio ad, a single for its bicycles, and Oppenheim – Herminghausen – Clarke prepared the best TV commercial, a Blue Cross commercial.
The best of collateral material, a direct mail program for Chevrolet, was prepared by the E. F. MacDonald Co.
The annual contest attracted more than 800 entries in 71 categories and there were a number of multiple winners.
Kircher, Helton & Collett had the most first places, 10, but they had only one award of merit (AM) while Oppenheim-Herminghausen-Clarke had nine winners and 16 AMs.
Armco Communications also scored with nine firsts and five AMs.
Jim Dapp was chairman and Jo Subler, associate chairman, of the contest which was judged by five advertising men, from Milwaukee, Kansas City and Atlanta.
