Richard J. Kaiser, Marketing Strategist here at P|O|N, recently attended the DECA event at First Baptist Church in Kettering. DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges worldwide.
Entrepreneurial students from local high schools were invited to showcase their interview and business capabilities by answering ethical questions regarding how they would handle specific business scenarios.
One such scenario asked students if they would continue to sell gift certificates for their restaurant to help defer costs even if they knew the restaurant was likely to close. Continue to sell, or owe up to your patrons?
In the second scenario, there was an expo for selling infant products which in previous years was restricted to local companies. However, due to poor attendance, the expo would be opened to national companies this year as well as local. Students were asked to come up with ideas for how to keep the local companies happy while explaining the unique promotion and product mix needed to host a successful event.
“It was great to see so many student entrepreneurs with a passion for business,” said Richard. “I was honored to help judge the event. Congratulations to all the winners!”
