Just as every other profession has seen major advances in technology, art and design is no exception. In fact, design often leads the way in innovation and change. Design hardware and software are constantly being changed or updated.
One of the most significant changes in the past few years was with a program called Photoshop®, by Adobe® Systems, Inc. In previous versions of the program, artists worked in layers – which helped create unique designs – and then saved the layered files. But a “flattened” version of the file also had to be saved in order to place the design into a layout program, like QuarkXpress 4.0, for instance, the user simply holds down the option key and double-clicks. The program automatically finds and opens the layered Photoshop file. The artist can make the changes, save one layered TIFF file; then go back to the layout program and update the file.
By using this technology, what used to take days can sometimes be done in a matter of hours or even minutes. This, in time, translates into cost savings for our clients. At P/O/N, we choose to “Invest in Tech!”
