The “dog days” of summer are officially here, marking the most sweltering days of the summer period. But why are they called dog days? Surprisingly, it’s not because our furry friends tend to act a bit lazier in the summer heat.

The phrase’s origins actually date back to the ancient Egyptians, who believed that the hot weather was directly related to the appearance of the Sirius star in the Canis Major constellation, which resembles the shape of a dog. How’s that for a fun fact?

Here at the Ohlmann Group, we’re taking advantage of the dog days of summer to showcase our own favorite canines. Feel free to peruse our monthly photo gallery featuring the top dogs at the OG!
