Making the grade.

Central State University in Wilberforce is Ohio’s only public HBCU, with a 120-year legacy of academic and athletic achievements. As Ohio’s only predominately African American public institution of higher education, CSU has a rich heritage of diversity and inclusion. Their vibrant campus is filled with all of the lures of a modern university setting, but its rural location and relatively small student body often hinder its ability to compete with larger universities and institutions of higher learning nearby. One of the nation’s “best-kept secrets” was no longer content being a secret anymore.

The Ohlmann Group collaborated with several key departments within Central State University to not only develop a better understanding of their key audiences but also refine the heritage CSU brand and present it in a fresh and contemporary visual style. We worked closely with the Office of Institutional Advancement and PR & Marketing to create effective messaging. And then, we joined forces with their internal marketing team to create compelling creative marketing and collateral pieces to help differentiate the CSU brand.

Key to this brand revitalization was the redesign of the Central State University view book, a substantial promotional publication for prospective students. From that initial design, other compelling marketing materials followed: brochures, signage, email marketing, event promotional materials, and digital and radio advertising. The Ohlmann Group continues to proudly create promotional materials for Central State University that better reflect the university’s distinct heritage brand.
