The YWCA’s mission is to eliminate racism and empower women. With 195 associations active across the nation, it’s one of the oldest social justice organizations in the country. Here in Dayton, the YWCA champions women and girls through programming, community outreach and education, and advocacy and public policy support. Each year, the organization serves more than 10,000 women, girls and families.
One of the important services the YWCA offers is an emergency shelter for women and children who flee domestic violence. The shelter is open all day, every day, and is a welcome safe haven for those in need in our community.
When women and children enter the doors of YWCA Dayton’s emergency shelter, they have access to counseling and other forms of support, but they’re also provided the little things that reinforce their dignity at a time of crisis. Inside the Dayton shelter is a thrift shop called Hope’s Closet. The “store,” which is free to residents of the shelter, is stocked with gently used women and children’s clothing, as well as household items.
This month, our Ohlmann Group team volunteered to sort donations and restock the racks of Hope’s Closet. In just a couple of hours, we had the store in tip-top shape, ready to welcome its next customers!
The YWCA is always accepting donations of new or gently-used clothing for both women and children, as well as unopened toiletries and household items. Learn more about how you can give back!
