December 9th, 2016 would have marked the 88th Birthday of Walter Ohlmann, who passed away this past August.  During his more than 50 years here at The Ohlmann Group, Walter was typically the first person in the building in the morning. He could almost always be found quietly working away behind his office desk. Over decades, countless employees would inevitably show up at that office door to say good morning, where they’d routinely be greeted with a warm smile, a funny quip, and an invitation to sit down and talk for a few minutes.

These small, simple, moments and others like them, endeared him to all who had the pleasure of knowing Walter. For every day, he made time to listen to whomever he encountered. He treated all people with respect, dignity, and compassion, regardless of things like physical stature or societal status. He genuinely cared about people. He wanted to understand others and help them in whatever way he could. This philosophy applied both to his personal life and to his business practices. Walter, who was typically busier than anyone in the building, understood that the seemingly unimportant act of making a little time to chat mattered about as much as anything else ever could. It mattered to him, and it meant something to all who knew him.

Today, on his birthday, we remember him, celebrate his life, and pay tribute to his legacy, which we have the honor and responsibility to carry forward into the future. May we never forget all the things that made him so uniquely wonderful while making others feel so special, and may we always make time to do them ourselves.

Happy Birthday Walter!
